The new Garmin GTX 330 transponders have been fitted.
Already one common error in their use has been identified. To activate the equipment during start-up one must press the STBY button, not the ON button. Pressing the ON button will cause the equipment to transmit and appear on ATC radar screens while the aircraft is on the ground. This is poor practice!
To fire the kit up, press the STBY button.
To start it transmitting, press the ALT button (just before entering the runway for departure).
To turn the kit off, press and hold the OFF button.
